Double Bar House
A subdivided hilly, wooded site in Penn Valley provides the background for this low-slung, linear design that takes advantage of the surrounding topography. Divided into a living wing and a bedroom wing, the building stretches out across the hill to stay lower than a neighboring historic mid-century house. This low profile allows the house to be relatively unobtrusive at the driveway and then opens out as the visitor gets closer. Metal roofing and thermally modified siding clad the simple gabled forms.
